My Personal Mental Health Journey and Lessons Learned

As we enter Mental Health Awareness month, I wanted to take a moment to briefly share my own personal journey with mental health. For over 15 years, I have battled with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, and other dark thoughts. It wasn't until I started taking time to truly reflect on myself that I began to understand my struggles.

Through my journey, I have learned some valuable lessons. Firstly, it's crucial to take time to look inward and gain a deep understanding of yourself. Figuring out who you are, your values, personality, and desires is a starting point to understanding your mental health.

Secondly, I have come to understand the importance of having a few trusted people in your life who can support you without judgment. These individuals should be good active listeners and be there for you through phone calls, voice messages, or texts. They should respect your boundaries and respond in ways that benefit your mental state.

Lastly, recognizing triggers is key to staying in control of your emotions and responses to certain situations. By acknowledging what triggers negative emotions, you can develop strategies to recover from these episodes and gain more control over your mental state across all scenarios.

Mental health is a journey, and it's not always easy, but it's essential to prioritize your well-being. Remember that you are not alone, and there is always help available. Let's continue to work towards breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health and creating a world where everyone can feel safe to openly discuss their struggles.
